youth
480 What are the words of the “Hail Mary”?
Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is
the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy
Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our
death. Amen.
The Annunciation painting by
Bartolomé Esteban Perez Murillo 1655. ….. 480
The Hail Mary in Latin:
Ave Maria, gratia plena.
Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in
mulieribus, et beneductus fructus ventris tui, Jesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis
peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen.
Ave Maria (Latin = Hail Mary): the first part of the most
important and popular prayer after the Our Father is taken from the Bible (Luke 1:28; Luke 1:42). The second
part, “…now and at the hour of our death”, is an addition from the sixteenth
century.
