275. Relics

YOUCAT Catechism + Catechism of the Catholic Church Lesson 275
Ave Maria series
Is it permissible to venerate relics?
The veneration of relics is a natural human need, a way of showing respect and reverence to the persons who are venerated.  Relics of saints are properly venerated when the faithful praise God’s work in people who have devoted themselves completely to God.  [1674]

Popular piety
1674 Besides sacramental liturgy and sacramentals, catechesis must take into account the forms of piety and popular devotions among the faithful. The religious sense of the Christian people has always found expression in various forms of piety surrounding the Church's sacramental life, such as the veneration of relics, visits to sanctuaries, pilgrimages, processions, the stations of the cross, religious dances, the rosary, medals etc.,( Compare Council of Nicaea II: Denzinger-Schonmetzer 601; 603; Council of Trent: DS 1822.)180 –Catechism of the Catholic Church
